What a week in 1/2LT!

This week, in 1/2LT, we’ve had a massive science week to kick start our new area of focus! On Tuesday we had a visit from the people at Hands On Science. We experimented with vinegar, baking soda and detergent. We also did a cabbage water experiment. We learnt about reactions and different materials. It was scienterrific!

We did an experiment in the classroom too. We blew up a balloon on a water bottle by mixing baking soda and vinegar. It created a gas when it reacted and made the balloon bigger. It exploded and went all over Moya, with a little on Maggie and Winnie.

We have started our new 1/2 reading and numeracy rotations, worked on spelling and refreshed our money and time in maths.

We have also looked at the three different states of matter. They are solid, liquid and gas. We played a great game of tiggy to help us understand what the particles in matter look like in the different three states. Then we did a sorting activity during class to help us identify these things in our world.

Can you find any solids, liquids or gases at home? We’d love to hear from you if you can!
